Website Trends we Saw in 2019

2019 marked the end of a progressive decade for online development. Over the past 10 years, websites have become integral to the success of a business and have helped many small businesses thrive. Web design as a career emerged and has developed into one of the most exciting aspects of website creation. To remember the end of the decade, here are some of the best website trends we saw in 2019.

  1. The Rise of Video Content

Video content has been rising in popularity over the last few years and it didn’t regress in 2019. Video content helps diversify website content and increases the likelihood that a user will form a real connection with a brand.

Glitch art also became a prominent design element alongside the continued adoration of GIFs.

  1. Micro-Interactions

Micro-interactions are the small things you do on a website that generate some sort of response. Social media notifications, chat bots, and scrolling animations are all examples of micro-interactions that we’ve grown to love and anticipate. In 2019, micro-interactions grew on mobile devices to better connect with people on the go.

  1. Minimalism in Website Trends

Not only are website trends becoming simpler and more straightforward, companies reverted back to the basics with text and font styles. Helvetica made a rise and many companies changed their branding to reflect it. Minimalism helps brands communicate a direct, effective message fast. This in turn, has helped to reduce visitor distraction and increase conversion rates.

  1. 3-D Illustration and Fluidity

Graphic designers started creating more 3-D images that included natural and organic shapes. Rounded figures that seemed to pop off the screen dominated many homepages, as they become easier to create, implement, and customize than traditional stock images. Going hand-in-hand with 3-D illustration, fluid design elements made a comeback, which are known to help make content more approachable and resonating.

  1. Retro Design

Finally, 2019 was plagued with retro designs and throwbacks. Retro color schemes made a comeback and it seemed like the 80s and 90s influence was everywhere. While many of us bathed in nostalgia, there are a number of people who saw this design as a new and exciting development.

Based on some of these website trends, we can start to predict what will continue to be successful in 2020 and what trends will start to fade away. To make sure you’re staying relevant, it’s important to continually assess and re-design elements of your site that aren’t working like they used to. If you have the experience to do it, great! If not, hiring a web developer is a good investment.
