Get Your Keyword Research Started with These 6 Tools

Keyword research is just one part of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), but it is certainly an important one. Google is continually making adjustments to its algorithms, changing what digital marketers need to be considering when creating and carrying out SEO strategies.

Doing in-depth keyword research is crucial to developing an effective SEO strategy and should be part of a constant SEO maintenance process. As time passes, so will industry trends and other buzzworthy topics. Be sure to incorporate those into your new content. 

Remember that your SEO strategy should include terms and phrases your ideal audience would actually use. Getting inside the heads of your potential customers can be difficult, but there are plenty of tools available to help you get there.

Here are some tools you can use to be sure your keyword strategy takes into account context, relevant ‘entities,’ and natural language users will be likely to incorporate into their search queries. 

1. Google Adwords Keyword Planner

You can use the Google Adwords Keyword Planner to find new and related keywords. It will give you plenty of ideas for potential keywords!

2. Google Trends

This Google tool allows you to compare traffic for sets of keywords, including differences between geographical regions. It can be very useful for determining whether certain keywords are seasonal or event-based as well.

3. Seed Keywords

This site provides suggestions based on the way real users’ brains think about what they’re searching for. It prompts you to describe a scenario in which a user is looking to find something, whether it’s a product, service, or just an answer to a question.

Once you have provided a scenario, Seed Keywords generates a unique link for you to share to followers and other contacts so they can submit the search terms they would use in that scenario. This tool may present some additional work on your end, but the insight it will provide into the way your followers search will be invaluable.

4. SERPstat

This tool will helpful for developing a local keyword research strategy. It allows you set a filter to see the most popular locations related to your keywords. You can also filter keywords by the presence of blended search results & special search features.

5. DeeperCloud

If you are building your keyword strategy from the ground up, DeeperCloud (a feature of deeperweb.com) can show you words or phrases that appear as related searches to your terms on result pages. You can then incorporate those related terms into your strategy.

6. AlchemyAPI

This tool incorporates ‘entities,’ (people, places, brands, and organizations) into the mix. To google, these types of things and their contexts play heavily into Google’s algorithms. AlchemyAPI allows you to submit in-depth articles on a given topic into its system. It will then pull out entities from the content and color code its results.
